Gwyneth Paltrow does it, so it must be good for you, right?
Jade eggs. A small, crystal egg that you're supposed to insert into your vaginal canal and either do Kegel exercises, yoga, or just your daily activities. It's been said that jade eggs can reduce pain and inflammation, increase libido, help in healing from trauma, and increase confidence and overall sexiness.
I don't know about you, but that sounds inticing to me.
So naturally I tried it. Because I exist only to please my curious readers. I bought three in different sizes, and on the day it arrived, I popped one in, and intending to do some yoga in bed, I actually took a nap.
Right off the bat, it felt really nice. It glided in smoothly and felt cool and refreshing. Obviously when I woke up from the nap it was no longer cool to the touch, but came out easily. I rinsed it with antibacterial soap and water (this wasn't advised, I just had to clean it so I didn't feel gross af) and put it ~under the light of a full moon~ overnight to "cleanse" it, because that's what Gwyneth does. Seriously? Seriously.
I tried it again the next morning. My libido was unchanged and I didn't feel any more confident. In fact, I was pretty anxious that it would slip out. At the end of the day, I gave up on it and put it on my bookshelf as a decoration. Then I started doing more research.
Unsurprisingly, it turns out you're NOT supposed to put any sort of rock in your vagina. Let me say that again: Don't. Put. Rocks. Inside. Your genitals. This is because jade, and other minerals, are porous by nature, and can actually absorb any bacteria (good or bad) that lives inside you and cause it to breed. NOT GOOD, FRIENDS. Not good. There have been reports of people getting bacterial vaginosis from crystal eggs.
TL;DR: Don't put minerals in your vagina. Just don't do it. The cons definitely outweigh the pros on this one. However, 'crystal dildos' and other sex toys are definitely coming more into the mainstream, and I do believe that certain crystals and spiritual practices can really help with the psychological effects of empowerment and trauma healing, so I won't rule it out completely. Hopefully the companies that make these crystal toys will find a way to make them safe and empowering.
